Penn State has “rolling admissions.” The best time to apply as a transfer student to allow sufficient time to process your application:
- Spring semester -- before October 1.
- Summer semester (two sessions) -- before February 1
- Fall semester -- before June 1
After these dates have passed, we recommend that you contact Jennifer Bona, Transfer Admissions Counselor, at 215-881-7345 to discuss your application timeline.
Step 1: Create a “MyPennState" account, which you will use to communicate with the University during the application process. Remember your User ID and Password. Throughout the application process, you should check this account to receive updates on your status and information specifically for you.
Step 2: Complete the on-line application. If you are currently enrolled in college courses, we recommend that you do not wait until the conclusion of your courses to begin your application process.
To apply, transfer students must choose a major and the campus where they plan to graduate. Some students transfer to Abington associate or bachelor degrees, and some students transfer to Penn State Abington and then transition to University Park or another Penn State campus to complete their Penn State degrees.
Transfer students are not required to complete the “personal statement.”
Step 3: Enter your credit card information to pay the $65 application fee and then “Submit”. Exceptions to the requirement to pay the application fee: 1) if you have signed a Letter of Intent--and meet the criteria, 2) if you are a member of Phi Theta Kappa, or 3) if you are financially eligible to have the application fee waived. If you meet any of these exceptions, first complete the online application without submitting the payment page, but please do not click “submit”. Contact Jennifer Bona, Transfer Admissions Counselor, for further information about fee waivers.
Step 4: Immediately notify your high school and college or university to have your transcripts sent to the Penn State admissions office. Do not wait until you have completed the semester. Your application will not be evaluated until the Admissions Office has received the application, your high school transcript, and the transcript(s) from all of the colleges you have attended.

Step 5: Send your Enrollment Deposit immediately after you receive your offer of admission. The decision on your application will appear first on your "MyPennState" account. You will also receive information by mail on your admission decision and about how to enroll. You will be instructed to send in your $230 Enrollment Fee and your Enrollment Notification Form.
Step 6: Schedule your classes by selecting your date to attend New Student Orientation for Transfers. You will receive the invitation to the Orientation in the mail or by email after you have paid your Enrollment Fee. Several of these afternoon sessions are offered in the weeks prior to the beginning of classes. You may be instructed to complete online placement tests before your Orientation session.
