Comic book fans Assemble! Comic books have taken over America! From classic funnies to major motion pictures, the genre of the comic book has become an art form worthy of discussion and study. And why not? Most comics are wonderfully written, beautifully illustrated and full of fantastic stories. In this camp, we will discover the world of the graphic novel. We will look at the history of comics, the technical aspects of the graphic novel and why they are important. We will also create our own heroes and villains and collaborate in a creative project!

This camp focuses on:

  • Learning about the graphic novel genre
  • Learning the history of graphic novels
  • Exploring the creative process

Grade Level: Entering Grades 8-12

Instructor

Daniel Wolkow

Daniel has been teaching for 17 years at various places around the country. He recently moved back to the east coast and is teaching Literature and Writing for Penn State Abington and Rowan University. His background includes running a college theater, teaching acting and directing, and working in the comic book industry. His daughter has attended many Penn State Kids College camps, so he is proud to follow in her footsteps.
