Health Professions Partnerships - Thomas Jefferson University

Penn State Abington offers the following articulation and transfer agreements with Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) for First-Year students.


3 + 3 in Physical Therapy (B.S. in Science/Doctor of Physical Therapy)

Complete the first three years at Abington and your final three years at TJU. You can earn a Bachelor of Science in Science with the Life Science option from PSU Abington and a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from TJU.

Students must apply to this program directly from high school as first-year applicants on the Penn State application. To  qualify for an interview, students must have

  • a minimum 3.3 high school GPA
  • a minimum total 1270 SAT (Critical Reading and Math sections)
  • two letters of recommendation
  • a minimum of 24 hours of shadowing or volunteering with a physical therapist prior to the required interview (more hours and varied experiences are recommended)
  • one-half unit of trigonometry

Students who are academically qualified will be sent a Jefferson supplemental
application in early January to complete for consideration of an admissions
interview. The Jefferson supplemental application includes:

  • Application
  • $50 application fee
  • Resume with shadowing hours listed
  • Essay: As a high school student, what influenced your decision to pursue accelerated entry into graduate school and specifically, why are you interested in Thomas Jefferson University’s DPT 3+3 program?

Students who have a successful interview will be offered direct admission into the 3+3 DPT program.

3 + 2 in Occupational Therapy (Bachelor’s degree in Psychological and Social Sciences/Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy)

Complete the first three years of prerequisite course work at Penn State Abington and the final two years at Thomas Jefferson University (TJU). You can earn a bachelor’s degree in Psychological and Social Sciences from Abington and a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy (OT) from TJU. Students apply to the Psychological and Social Sciences major on the Penn State application. Upon admission they will work closely with their faculty adviser to meet the 3+2 program requirements.

Students apply to the master’s in OT at TJU the beginning of their junior year at Abington. The minimum criteria required is successful completion of the first year of the articulated curriculum with a 3.3 Penn State GPA and with no prerequisite course grade lower than a “C,” a letter of recommendation from their Penn State faculty adviser, and a favorable review from the interview committee. Prior to submitting the application, students must have completed a minimum of 24 hours of OT shadowing/volunteer experience. This experience is a major component of the admissions statement and interview for successful applicants.


2 + 2 in Specialized Sciences (Associate degree in LAS/Bachelor’s degree in Science)

Complete the first two years of prerequisite coursework at Penn State Abington and complete your final two years at TJU. You can be admitted to TJU for a specialized science degree, such as Nursing, Bioscience Technologies, or Radiologic Sciences. Those completing this program will earn an associate degree from Penn State Abington in Letters, Arts, and Sciences and a bachelor of science degree from TJU.


3 + 2 in Biotechnology, Cyotechnology, or Medical Technology (Bachelor’s degree in Science/Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Cyotechnology, or Medical Technology)

Complete the first three years of prerequisite course work at Penn State Abington and complete your final two years at TJU. You can earn a Bachelor’s degree in Science from Penn State Abington and both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biotechnology, Cyotechnology, or Medical Technology from TJU.
