Abington men's soccer ends record-breaking season in NCAA tournament

ABINGTON, Pa. — The Penn State Abington men's soccer team's Cinderella season came to a close Nov. 11 with a 3-0 loss to Lynchburg College in the NCAA tournament in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Lynchburg's Jack Ashby broke through in the 11th minute after he headed in a shot at the back post. Moments later the Hornets doubled their advantage when Abibi Osman placed a perfect pass for Jon Mackey that cut through the back line for an easy goal that tapped in off the post. Down 2-0 with 25 minutes off the clock, Michael Albers, of Southampton, Pennsylvania, recorded Abington's lone shot on goal, but it was stopped by the goalkeeper.

The Hornets added another goal to their total late in the second half to secure their spot in the second round of the NCAA tournament, where they will face Emory.

Abington finished with a record 15 wins and the first NCAA tournament appearance in program history. This season also saw Head Coach David Castellanos being named the NEAC Coach of the Year and Andrew Costa named the NEAC Defensive Player of the Year for his outstanding efforts on the back line.
