Leadership Opportunities

Annual Collegiate Leadership Competition - Spring 2017

For 10 weeks, six Abington students worked with two coaches to explore leadership concepts and terms while participating in sample team building activities in preparation for the Second Annual Collegiate Leadership Competition at Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania.

Penn State Abington Leadership Team

The team competed at Widener University against five other student leader teams from various colleges and universities in the region. The team placed second overall for the processing of the goals of the activities and working together as a team!

For 45 hours, the Abington team worked hard and practiced for this competition: gaining new skills, improving their leadership abilities and building a new community of like-minded leaders who learned about group dynamics, conflict resolution, and communication and problem solving.

The Penn State Abington Leadership Team competed at Widener University against 5 other student leader teams from various colleges and universities in the region.

Results

Penn State Abington's team placed second overall for the processing of the goals of the activities and working together as a team!

Penn State Abington's Leadership Team placed 5th in overall score! These students were unbelievable in their ability to be successful in these time constraint team-building activities.

Described as a practice field for leadership education, the Collegiate Leadership Competition challenges students and helps prepare them to lead in the workforce in a fun and exciting environment, taking their learning to the next level.

Service and Advocacy Organizations

Get Involved - Join a Service or Advocacy Student Organization!

These student organizations are not the only clubs engaged in community service but their core mission is service and advocacy.

All Service and Advocacy organizations are required to report their volunteer hours (and philanthropic work) to Community Engagement.Any student organization that is involved with service or philanthropic efforts are encouraged to maintain regular communication with Community Engagement and also must report their volunteer hours.

Community Outreach Workers (COW)

COW exists to provide students with the opportunity to serve the community and campus through hands on volunteering service. We also raise money to benefit some charities that we feel the students of Penn State Students will gain awareness from and understanding. COW sponsors a monthly ABC Day, Abington Cares Days, where students are given the opportunity for direct hands on service in the greater Philadelphia area free of charge. Join us today and make an impact on someone's life!

THON

I THON at Penn State Abington

Students volunteers at Penn State's Abington campus comment on why the volunteer to raise money for THON, student-run organization committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer.

THON is the largest run student philanthropy in the world. Each year, THON raises millions of dollars for the Four Diamonds Fund, which helps fight Pediatric Cancer. The Abington THON committee sponsors numerous events throughout the year to raise money for the Penn State Dance marathon that occurs every February at University Park.
