Home Care Coding is a highly detailed and demanding job. Coders must have a strong core knowledge base to be able to perform efficiently and positively impact their agency’s revenue. Essential to this knowledge base is a fluency in the over 1200-page Home Health ICD-10-CM Coding Manual.

With the launch of the Home Care Coding Refresher course, Penn State Abington Office of Continuing Education seeks to support the professional development needs of internal and external home care coders, nurses working with external coders, and quality assurance nurses. The 18-hour (1.8 CEU) training refresher will help medical coders gain a better mastery of the 2019/20 Coding Manual. Coders will navigate this resource in active, structured collaboration with their peers to: stay current, expand their knowledge, and strengthen their confidence in its use and application.

Penn State Abington Instructor Althea Servais, RN, COS-C, HCS-D, believes that the classroom- based Home Care Coding Refresher is a valuable learning alternative to the predominantly online training options available today: “By offering this course, Penn State Abington provides home care coders with face-to-face training, and opportunities for open discussion, collegial sharing, and collaboration.”
