ABINGTON, Pa. — Penn State Abington athletics has announced that Roy Watson, who led a high school program to multiple championships, will be the women's volleyball head coach for the 2019 season.
Watson joins the Abington coaching staff after leading the New Hope-Solebury High School program to three consecutive Bicentennial League Championships, three consecutive Suburban One AA District Championships, and three consecutive PIAA state tournament appearances. He is a two-time recipient of the Bicentennial Athletic League Coach of the Year award.
Watson is a club director at High Line Volleyball Club, where he serves as the lead technical coach, club administrator and head coach for several Junior Olympic teams. Over the past decade, Watson has coached successful Junior Olympic programs for ages 13 through 18.
Watson is a Double-Goal member of the Positive Coaching Alliance and a two-time attendee of Gold Medal Squared Coaching Clinics. He is certified CAP II through USA Volleyball.
"I am sincerely looking forward to getting into the gym and starting the work to build Abington volleyball into a winning, sustainable volleyball program," Watson said. "We have several very strong athletes returning from last season, and we will rely on our senior leadership to help begin the process of creating a culture of competition and winning that will make the students and faculty of Abington proud. We will work hard and get better together! Always!"
Watson earned a master's degree in education and a graduate certificate in applied behavior analysis from Penn State. Watson is a Pennsylvania Highly Qualified, Instructional two-level teacher in the areas of special education, elementary education, mid-level math, mid-Level English, and mid-level social studies.
