The Penn State Abington community led by its student Lion Ambassadors donated a staggering 12,636 pounds of food — enough for about 34,000 meals — to support the Philadelphia region's largest hunger relief agency.

The students delivered the food to XFinity Live! near the sports complex in Philadelphia last week. The 93.3 WMMR Preston & Steve Show broadcasts its Camp Out for Hunger from the parking lot each year to rally donations for Philabundance.

"There are no words to express the joy I feel," Erica Pulaski, from the Abington admissions office and adviser to the Lion Ambassadors (LAs), said. "The number of people this will feed well into next year fills my heart with so much happiness."

"I'm so proud of the hard work everyone puts into this cause and so happy that I get to continue to be a part of it."

-- Arianna Martin, 2014 Penn State graduate

The LAs, in their 10th year participating in Camp Out, topped its 2014 donation by two tons. Sticking with the outdoorsy theme, they erect tents throughout campus for nonperishables and collect cash from local businesses, alumni, and friends throughout the year. Kevin Cannon, associate professor of chemistry, rallied his students, and one section of Chem 210 brought in 500 cans.

Abington alumna Arriana Martin, 2014, showed up at XFinity and said she is "over the moon" about the results. Martin's employer, Aardvark Event Logistics, made a significant donation to the Abington Camp Out.

"We've all worked together to help feed those in need," Martin said. "I'm so proud of the hard work everyone puts into this cause and so happy that I get to continue to be a part of it."
