You Be the Chemist

Whether you’re a more serious science student or just a kid who enjoys exploring and learning about the world around you, this camp is for you!  The focus of this program is on chemistry, chemistry, and chemistry!  Using the experiments designed by the Chemical Education Foundation, learn to use scientific methodology to explore such topics as chemical reactions, polymers, thermal conductivity, solubility, and more!

This camp focuses on:

  • Promoting the science of chemistry, the benefits of chemicals, and the importance of chemical safety awareness
  • Providing students with hands-on chemistry activities that will increase their knowledge of the subject as well as their appreciation for chemistry and chemicals
  • Exploring the scientific method
  • Conducting experiments involving polymers, chemical reactions, solutions, acids, bases, surface tension, density, and more

Meet Your Instructor

Samuel Gonzalez

Sam Gonzalez is a recent graduate of Penn State in their Elementary & Early Childhood Education program. He also holds a certification in teaching English as a Second Language. This fall, Sam will begin his Masters program to earn a Reading Specialist degree while continuing to teach full-time. He is a proud founder of the "Lions Read Initiative," which works with teachers to support students who need extra attention by reinforcing lessons in small groups or in an individualized setting. Sam has also taught in the Abington School District since October of 2019, and completed his student teaching service at Overlook Elementary. He is very excited to be teaching at Penn State Abington's Kids & Teen College this summer!
