Guide to Incorporating Fast-Track MBA Courses as Part of Undergraduate Business Degree

Penn State Great Valley, in collaboration with Penn State Abington, offers a Fast Track MBA designed for Abington students completing their undergraduate degree with a major or minor in business. This program features exemptions for up to 5 foundation courses and 1 pre-program requirement from the Penn State Great Valley MBA curriculum.

Eligibility

To be admitted to the Fast Track MBA at Penn State Great Valley, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • Successful completion of an undergraduate degree from Penn State Abington within the last 5 years
  • Completion of at least 3 of the undergraduate courses listed below in Table 1: Course Exemption with a grade B or better
    • Note: these courses will be used to exempt the student from the MBA pre-requisite and foundations courses as identified in Table 1. If a student did not take the undergraduate course(s) in Table 1, he/she will take the graduate course as part of the MBA program. (For example, if a student took SCM 200, ECON 302, ACCTG 404, and ACCTG 471, he/she will be exempt from BUSAD 501, BUSAD 523, and ACCTG 511; and will take OPMGT 510, FIN 531, and MKTG 500 as part of the MBA curriculum.
  • Completion of a one-semester internship or one-year of full time professional work that pertains to the student’s field of study
    • Note: a student can apply to the program during the internship or while employed.
  • A letter of recommendation from a full-time Penn State Abington faculty member, and
  • An overall GPA of 3.0.

Note: Students meeting all of the above criteria qualify for a GMAT Waiver. Students who meet some (but not all) of the above criteria, can apply for the MBA program and are required to take the GMAT to be considered for admission.

Application Deadline

Abington students applying for the fast-track MBA are advised to use the following dates as a guideline:

Fall admission: apply by July 15
Spring admission: apply by November 15
Summer admission: apply by March 15

Application Instructions

Students are encouraged to contact the MBA Program Manager, Christian Hicks at 610.648.3346 or email cmh351@psu.edu prior to submitting their online application to review the admission requirements. Students must complete the online application for admission by going to gradschool.psu.edu/apply/ and must submit all required documentation in order to be considered for admission.

Note: Applicants must indicate in the Notes Section of the online application they are applying to the Fast Track MBA Program at Penn State Great Valley.

Admission Requirements

Please submit the following:

  • A resume
  • Statement of Intent or Career Objective: a one-page letter of intention outlining one’s professional goals and educational objectives for attending the university.
  • Two letters of recommendation: enter the name and contact information for two recommenders who can provide a letter of recommendation. Upon submission of your application, an email will be sent to the recommenders requesting them to complete a brief online recommendation regarding your academic ability, commitment, and success in the program.  Inform all recommenders they must submit the recommendation form in order for your application to be complete and considered for admission.
    • Note: At least one of the recommenders must be a full-time Penn State Abington faculty member.
  • GMAT/GRE scores, if applicable. Scores must be submitted directly from the testing agency (Pearson-VUE for GMAT, ETS for GRE).
  • GRE code: 2660. For more information on testing and locations, visit www.gre.org.
  • GMAT scores: Select the Pennsylvania State University-Great Valley-School of Graduate Professional Studies- MBA, Part Time from the GMAC web site. For more information, visit www.mba.com.
    • Note: A GMAT waiver can be requested on the online application (please refer to the GMAT Waiver information above). Eligibility will be determined by the admissions committee.
  • A non-refundable $65 application fee. (Waived if you attend a recruitment event or meet with the Academic Program Manager).
