Multidisciplinary Studies in the Abington College (LASAB) is a student-designed, multi-disciplinary, and theme-oriented liberal arts major leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Students formulate a theme (a topic, idea, or issue) that they wish to explore. Consulting with an LASAB adviser, the student designs a program of study that investigates that theme from the viewpoint of at least three different subjects areas.
Who is Multidisciplinary Studies for?
If you have already investigated the majors in the Abington College and believe that none of them addresses your particular academic interests, you may wish to design an individualized plan of study that consists of courses across several disciplines and departments. This plan of study is the entry point to the LASAB major.
To be a Multidisciplinary Studies student in the Abington College, you must have an interest in several fields rather than only one, and you must make a commitment of time and effort to design your own coherent plan of study.
Faculty advisers are available to assist you as you explore the many options available to you in the Abington College. If, after your investigation of majors in the standard disciplines, you find that none can adequately meet your academic goals, you may be a candidate for Multidisciplinary Studies in the Abington College.
