Pedestrian Friendly

With sidewalks and signage to help guide the way, Lions Gate is a safe, 15-minute walk to campus. 

Plus, Abington is home to a variety of restaurants, gyms, a community library, and more. You’ll find those, plus popular stores like Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, CVS, and Wawa—all within walking distance. 

If you like to bike, racks are stationed at Lions Gate, on campus, and around town. 

Transportation

  • The Office of Transportation at Penn State Abington oversees campus parking policies, issues, campus parking permits and promotes sustainable transportation choices. 
  • Students residing in Lions Gate are provided with several transportation options to and from campus as well as means to travel inside and outside the Philadelphia area. 

Driving and Campus Parking 

Some students may also choose to drive to campus. Student parking at Lions Gate and on campus is dependent upon a student's semester classification: 

  • First-year residents in Lions Gate are unable to have a car at Lions Gate 

  • Residents in their sophomore, junior, and senior years are permitted to park in the Lions Gate student lot with an appropriate parking permit. 

    • Residents can park in, the Lions Gate Student Lot and in campus student parking lots G, H, J, K, L, and M. See campus map

Need a ride? We have you covered. Shuttles run continuously between Lions Gate and campus throughout the day during the fall and spring semesters.

Regional Public Transportation

For farther destinations, consider SEPTA, the Philadelphia region’s public transportation provider: 

  • Hop on a bus—covering one of the largest routes in the area—at the stop just outside Lions Gate. Buses arrive in Philadelphia in approximately 30 minutes. 

  • Catch a train to Philadelphia at the regional rail station a few blocks down the road. Trains arrive in Philadelphia in approximately 20 minutes.

  • Abington is a thriving town with shops, restaurants, gyms, recreational spaces, and plenty of activities. Convenience stores such as Wawa, fast-food such as Chipotle, and full-service restaurants are easily accessible. Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods are within walking distance, and the Giant Supermarket is one mile away.
