The entire Penn State Abington community turned out to greet new students and help them move into the campus' first residence hall, the Lions Gate Apartment Community.
ABINGTON, Pa. — Penn State Abington officially welcomed its first residential students into the campus community during a weeklong move-in at the new Lions Gate Apartment Community.

Faculty, staff, students and alumni turned out to greet the 402 freshman and their families. Abington Student Affairs staff coordinated the effort, which included everything from curbside greetings to gift bags in the apartments.

The freshmen living at the Lions Gate are joined by 10 resident assistants, highly trained current students who live at the Lions Gate, and two full-time residential coordinators who live in the building.

The four-story, $50 million complex is located in the heart of Abington Township — about a quarter-mile from campus — so students can easily walk and bike to classes, stores and restaurants. It's also convenient to public transportation.
About the Lions Gate Apartment Community
- Four to six students per apartment-style unit, each equipped with a kitchen and private bathroom
- Shuttle service is available between the residence hall and campus
- Quiet study pods or lounges on each floor
- Knowledge stations (areas for group projects outfitted with technology)
- Seminar learning spaces
Penn State Abington, formerly the Ogontz campus, offers baccalaureate degrees in 18 majors at its suburban location just north of Philadelphia. Nearly half of our 4,000 students complete all four years at Abington, with opportunities in undergraduate research, the Schreyer honors program, NCAA Division III athletics, and more. Students can start the first two years of more than 160 Penn State majors at Abington and complete their degrees at University Park or another campus. Lions Gate, our first residence hall, opened in August 2017.
