Penn State Abington students celebrated the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Jan. 21. Together, the group benefited the community by:
-- Making 1,171 sandwiches to be distributed to organizations serving the homeless
-- Crafting 118 fleece scarves and 10 blankets for the needy
-- Designing 60 cards for THON and for residents of Sunrise Senior Living near campus
-- Constructing 16 bowls to distribute at the Empty Bowls Dinner on Feb. 8
-- Serving 42 hours visiting residents at Sunrise Senior Living
-- Serving 150 hours of community service on campus
Tracy Reed, assistant director of Student Life at Abington, praised their efforts.
“For those of you who served, I hope you enjoyed your day and I thank you for giving your time to help others,” she said. “Remember this day happens every year and we hope that you join our students as they spend a day on, not a day off. Pencil the date in for Jan. 20, 2014.”
