The Bachelor of Science in Accounting (ACCAB) prepares students for careers in corporate and business accounting, auditing and public accounting, industrial and managerial accounting, and in governmental and not-for-profit accounting. The program also provides a sound foundation for students to pursue graduate studies in accounting or related fields. See our recommended courses by semester.
Practical application of classroom knowledge is an important aspect of this degree program. With the strong business and economic climate in the greater Philadelphia area, combined with close proximity to New York City, a major global financial center, our students have many opportunities for internships, real-world learning opportunities, and excellent career prospects after they graduate.
To complete the B.S. in Accounting degree a minimum of 120 credits are required. See more about our entrance to major requirement here.
Students wishing to pursue the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation in Pennsylvania are required to complete 30 additional credit hours including a minimum additional 12 credit hours in accounting.
This option is available through Penn State Great Valley’s Master of Professional Accounting.
Graduates generally satisfy the educational requirements for professional certifications, including Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM). However, these certificates also require two or more years of work experience that would need to be completed after graduation. Graduates may also pursue minors listed here.
Many US states and territories require professional licensure/certification to be employed. If you plan to pursue employment in a licensed profession after completing this program, please visit the Professional Licensure/Certification Disclosures by State interactive map (available July 1).
