The Penn State Bookstore, which is operated by Barnes & Noble College, a Barnes & Noble Education Inc. company, has awarded its fourth round of grants to support a range of programs and initiatives across the University.

Stephen Taub, a former Penn State Abington student and University Park graduate, has continued his longtime support for Abington with a $17.3 million commitment, the largest gift in the campus’ history. The new Taub Endowments will provide high-impact opportunities for deserving students through scholarships and global engagement programs.
The Nurses for Tomorrow Scholarships are available to Penn State Abington RN to B.S.N. nursing students who are graduates of community college nursing programs.
The W.W. Smith Charitable Trust awarded a combined grant of $103,000 for student scholarships to Penn State Abington and Penn State Brandywine. Scholarships up to $7,000 will be available to qualified full-time students at both campuses with unmet financial need.
The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation has awarded a grant of $25,000 to Penn State Abington as part of the Newcombe Scholarships for Mature Students program. The award is for mature students who are pursuing their first bachelor’s degrees, have completed at least half the requirements toward their degrees, and have unmet financial need. Penn State Abington will match the funds 1:1, for a total impact of $50,000 in scholarships during the 2018-2019 academic year.
Penn State President Eric J. Barron has been named chairman of the Commission on Innovation, Competitiveness and Economic Prosperity for the Association of Public Land-grant Universities.
Penn State is moving toward a University-wide health insurance requirement for the 2018-19 academic school year. In preparation for the new requirement, University Health Services (UHS) will begin collecting student health insurance information in May 2017.
